Visa & passport requirements

visitors need a passport valid for at least six months to enter
Honduras. When entering the country, you will be issued a one-month
"tourist" visa. There is a $34 airport tax charge when leaving
the country.
Language
The
national language of Honduras is Spanish, however since the Bay
Islands were once British colonies, many people on Roatan speak or
understand English.
Climate
Roatan's
tropical climate generally ranges between 77°F and 84°F with nearly
continual trade winds from the southeast that cool the island.
October to December are the rainiest months, but rainfall is
generally periodic and of short duration. Average water temperature
varies from 78°F in winter to 84°F in summer.
What to Bring
The
dress is casual on Roatan, with bathing suit, shorts, T shirts, tank
tops being typical attire. Bring more than one bathing suit. The sun
is intense, so a lightweight long sleeved shirt and pants are handy
to have. Sun block lotion is a must.
Currency
The
currency of Honduras is the Lempira. The exchange rate to U.S.
dollars is approximately 19 Lempiras to one U.S. dollar. U.S.
dollars and travelers checks are accepted at nearly all locations
on Roatan. There is usually a surcharge on credit cards. Local sales
tax is 12%.
Water
In
Honduras it is generally recommended to drink bottled water.
Ice is made from purified water.
Safety
The Bay
Islands are generally safe for visitors, however normal precaution
should be taken, such as when walking at night or walking in remote
areas. Turquoise Bay Resort has full security.
Electricity
Roatan
uses the same electric voltage as the U.S.: AC (60Hz), 110 volts.
The resort has a back up generator.
